Alison Andrews, KC Rider of the Month, August 2026

My name is Alison Andrews, I have attended Karen and Clare’s camps and test riding days. Two of them on Sam my Welsh Sec D and one camp on my Cremello Welsh Sec D called Lolo.
The camps I have attended on Sam I have learnt a huge amount. I have really enjoyed having totally different instructors who have different ideas and thought which is great to pick bits that work well for both of us.

I also attended the November camp last year with Lolo where I had lessons with Karen, it was Lolo’s first time staying away and first time at Bicton, so I feel Lolo really benefited from staying in a strange stable and having two lessons each day, which gave him the exposure to the arenas and seeing other horses working around him, a hugely beneficial experience for him.

he camps aren’t just about the riding, there are many other activities such as Penny the physio, Pilates, nutrition talks and weigh bridge, mindset sessions which really make you thing about lots of things from a different perspective, talks from lots of various people such as Nutwell Sadderly, Charlotte Warman ( the bit and bridle lady) Equidance gave a great talk.

In the evenings there have been various social activities such as line dancing, which is great fun, you don’t need to be an expert, it is called and demonstrated for you, the other great night was Bingo with Clare as the caller! She didn’t need a microphone!

I would highly recommend the weekend camps, you get to have a lovely time with your horse and meet up with lots of great people. I have a lovey example of meeting people at a weekend camp and test riding days, I was at Chard on my own  for a two day show and two lovely ladies both called Jane were parked opposite me and invited me to eat with them and have a drink, I had originally met them at a KC event.
